As friends and colleagues of Tim Browning, we would like to recognize our hometown hero as the recipient of the 2024 Centralia College Distinguished Alumni Award confirming his undying commitment to our community.
Browning’s journey from Centralia High School to his distinguished career in education and public service exemplifies the spirit of excellence and dedication.
A product of Centralia, Browning’s educational path took him through the halls of Centralia College and beyond. With a passion for learning ingrained since his early years, he dedicated two decades to teaching at esteemed institutions like the University of New Mexico, Furman University and the University of Arizona.
His contributions extended globally, shaping international higher education through organizations like the China Education Debate Network.
Tim’s commitment to service wasn’t confined to academia. He immersed himself in local governance, serving on the Centralia Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment and the City Council, where he held the esteemed position of mayor for a decade. Throughout his tenure, Browning remained a steadfast advocate for his community, championing projects like the city’s new wastewater treatment plant and the establishment of the Riverside Fire Authority.
Browning’s leadership was marked by unwavering dedication to the people he served regardless of differing viewpoints. His decisions were rooted in what he believed was best for Centralia. His collaborative approach extended beyond city limits, recognizing the interconnectedness of communities within the county and region.
Driven by his lifelong love for education, Browning embarked on a new chapter by joining the Centralia School District Board of Directors. As president, his vision is clear: to fortify the bond between the district and its community. Acknowledging past challenges, Browning is committed to rebuilding trust and fostering positive relationships among citizens, educators, taxpayers, and the school district.
Having served alongside Browning, we have witnessed firsthand his forward-thinking approach and unwavering dedication to our students and community. His active involvement in state conventions, community events, and collaborative policy discussions underscores his commitment to shaping a brighter future for Centralia.
As we celebrate Tim’s achievements and the honor bestowed upon him, let us recognize his tireless efforts in advancing education and community welfare.
