Letter to the Editor: County Steals Your Money Again

Posted

The Lewis County Department of Public Works and Lewis County are at it again to take your money and do nothing. It’s the county’s new fee No Spray Program.

Now landowners who do not want the county to spray herbicides, chemicals and pesticides along their property here in Lewis County have to pay the county $300 initially and $25 per year thereafter to not spray along their property.

Sounds like “protection money” to me.

County residents who farm and produce vegetables for their own use and don’t want chemical drift or chemical impact from county road maintenance need to fork over money to our local government to leave them alone.

Consider residents with chemical sensitivity, such as military veterans exposed to Agent Orange are required to have a doctor tell the county of one's personal health concerns. Is this the county prying into my private health care? Were the fees being imposed ever open to the public for input and comment? Was there any transparency in county government?

Do our county commissioners and department managers think county residents are so stupid as to not see a steal from our savings?

I urge county residents with concerns to stand up and address the issue and call for an immediate repeal of these government fees to do nothing.
