Letter to the editor: Credibility of political leaders is crucial, and it is our responsibility to hold them accountable

I would like to bring attention to an issue that I found quite concerning during the recent candidate debates on Sept. 26. Commissioner Candidate Lindsey Pollock made a statement about her active support for apprenticeship and the apprentice(s) she employs.

She emphasized her involvement and dedication to growing a local workforce through apprenticeship programs. However, upon conducting thorough research, it became evident that Pollock does not actually run an apprenticeship program at her veterinary clinic in Winlock like she stated.

She might employ individuals she deems worthy of a lesser hourly rate, but she certainly does not have a structured training program with classroom training like other certified apprenticeship programs and training agents are required to provide, among other requirements.

She again stated these claims at the next debate on Oct. 10.

Pollock also has stated something to the effect of single-handedly making the Washington State Department of Transportation open or leave open Interstate 5 during a catastrophic flood. I believe the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the governor were the deciding factors, not Pollock’s sole mediation skills.

This revelation raised questions about the integrity of Pollock’s statements and the motivation behind them. Voters need to be well-informed about the authenticity of the claims made by political candidates, especially when it comes to matters as important as workforce development and training opportunities for the citizens of Lewis County.

As a concerned citizen who believes in the value of transparency and honesty in politics, I felt compelled to share my findings and urge others to critically evaluate the statements made by all candidates, seeking the truth (not the rhetoric) behind their promises and commitments.

The credibility of our political leaders is crucial, and it is our responsibility to hold them accountable for the accuracy of their claims, so we as taxpaying citizens can make informed decisions based on truths, not just words to get reelected.
