Letter to the Editor: Developing in Floodplain Does More Harm Than Good

Posted

It seems to me that developing the floodplain along Interstate 5 does more harm than good for the community.

The water that would have flooded those areas has to go somewhere. I'm not a hydrologist, but folks are saying that a lot of that water flows into town.

Here's a good thought experiment: If developers had to compensate residents and business owners in town every time there was a flood that was exacerbated by developing the floodplain, would anybody develop the floodplain in the first place?
