Letter to the Editor: Getting Vaccinated an Act Kindness to Those We Love

Posted

Sheriff Rob Snaza is correct in that he is not a sheep. He is a Judas goat leading his lambs (constituents) to slaughter. He is in good company with our other elected officials whose message is to disdain vaccinations as a constitutional right.

They are killing their own voting base. According to Kaiser, 88% of Republicans believe that the news exaggerates the seriousness of the pandemic and 96% feel that getting vaccinated is a personal choice. He is also in lockstep with Florida and Texas governors who tout the same message.

In 1905, Supreme Court Justice John Marshall Harlan wrote that the freedoms of one cannot outweigh the freedoms of the majority to enjoy health and wellbeing.

That opinion is the reason smallpox was eradicated. And Dr. Salk must be rolling over in his grave over this extremely selfish view that not getting vaccinated for COVID-19 is a personal choice. It is not a personal choice.  It is a choice one makes for all human beings one comes in contact with. It is an act of kindness to all whom we love.

Parents who don’t get vaccinated are putting their children, grandparents and other close relatives at risk. When are we going to take the “I” mentality out of our vocabularies and change that to “we”? Have we all forgotten the preamble of the constitution says “We the People”?

For our sake I hope not. Our lives depend on it.
