A story in your March 21 edition spoke about the Lewis County recycling problem of “too much garbage” dumped into landfills.
There is a viable answer that will not only get rid of many of the largest items, but will also put them to good use. Here’s the idea: My daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Steve, were able to round up eight refrigerators and freezers, free of charge.
After removing the guts, they made a great raised garden for vegetables and herbs. My wife and I followed suit, and last year we harvested from our two refrigerators and one freezer.
For this season, we are looking for two more refrigerators to increase our garden, a move that can decrease landfill items and give my wife and I perfect height for weeding and reaching the plants with ease.
