Letter to the Editor: JHB Should Help Stop Funding for Animal Labs

Posted

As Congress considers billions in 2023 funding for the National Institutes of Health, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler can ensure that American tax dollars are no longer shipped to Russia’s cruel and wasteful animal laboratories.

Our taxpayer watchdog group recently exposed that last year the NIH sent nearly $550,000 to the Kremlin-run Pavlov Institute of Physiology for deadly experiments in which cats had portions of their brains removed, electrodes implanted in their spines, and were forced to walk on treadmills before being killed and dissected. Currently, four Russian government animal testing labs are eligible to receive NIH funding.

As a member of the committee that funds the NIH, Rep. Herrera Beutler can prevent our money from being sent to Putin’s animal laboratories. Americans should not be forced to pay for animal abuse, especially in Russia.
