Letter to the editor: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump? My thoughts

Posted

Our ballots are beginning to arrive, and we have some very important decisions to make.

The choices for president come down to Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. This is a very polarizing choice. Kamala Harris is a relative unknown. She was the district attorney for San Francisco for a few years and then the attorney general for California before becoming vice president.

We don’t know much about her time in California although she was widely condemned, even by Nancy Pelosi, when she refused to seek the death penalty for a man that murdered a police officer. Her work as vice president seems mostly to be absent from the few duties she was given, such as “Border Czar,” a job that she shunned until hounded to go. She never actually visited the border, only a processing station.

As for Donald Trump, he gets a lot of bad press for his statements, but we have his four years as president to know what he would do if reelected. Harris will continue the current administration’s policies, while Trump will certainly make changes.

So, do you want four more years of Biden’s economy, or back to someone who wants the best for this country?

On the congressional front, we have Maria Cantwell, who has been in Congress since 2001, or Dr. Raul Garcia. It seems that I never hear from Cantwell until it’s time for re-election. Do we want more of the same or a new vision? Twenty-four years is more than enough to be a career politician. Or how about term limits?

As for the House, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez or Joe Kent? If you like the programs and policies of President Biden, then perhaps Gluesenkamp Perez is your choice. I disagree with much of what Biden, and then Harris, stand for and their programs. Is pushing electric vehicles such a good idea for our very sketchy power grid? How about adding all those appliances, such as ovens, fireplaces, water heaters, washers and dryers to the grid by outlawing natural gas?

In the state, we’ve had Republicans representing us for several years. This is a very conservative district. The Democrats are pushing more taxes, higher gas prices, higher grocery prices and more taxpayer-funded programs. When they have a budget surplus, they spend it rather than return it to the taxpayers.

I hear from all three of our state representatives often, explaining the programs that are coming up or have been passed, and their stand on those programs. I like our representatives and just hope that the rest of the state is fed up and sweep the democrats out of office. For instance, Bob Ferguson promises more law enforcement. Isn’t he the one that fired all of those Washington State Patrol people? He backed defunding police. It’s his programs, and those of Jay Inslee, that have allowed the increasing violent crime rate. Bob Ferguson won’t change anything.

The initiatives we’re voting on will undo some of the damage they’ve done. Do we want four more years of that?
