Public safety is a No. 1 priority, and I want you, your family and property to have access to 911 emergency services when needed.
I support a yes vote for the 911 ballot measure this November election because the proposed two-tenths of 1% of sales and use tax on $100 purchase countywide is equal to 20 cents. It is affordable and contributed to by visitors to Lewis County and those traveling through the Interstate 5 corridor.
I believe this is a more fair way to pay for upgrades, maintenance and operations of emergency services radio communication systems in Lewis County rather than asking the voter for more property taxes as we are all struggling with inflation and a budget.
This sales and use tax will release the user fee paid by the community and cities and will allow those funds currently budgeted to be used for other infrastructure needs. This proposed sales and use tax exempts gas, medicines and groceries. It’s two dimes thrown in the middle of your console or change jar.
The sales and use tax will go to a future investment fund held on account at the county. Said funds are required to be held in a separate account dedicated for this purpose only. As you are aware of the importance of continuing advancements in technology, it is vital for Lewis County to have the funds available when needed for upgrades, etc.
Geographically, Lewis County has many hills that often block communications. The radio systems experience cross communications from other districts and hangups due to outdated radio communication equipment.
At one point, a passerby used his OnStar to connect the medics with the dispatcher.
All life matters in Lewis County whether it’s rural or in a city. The sales and use tax measure is successful in Thurston County for emergency services.
Let’s support the 911 ballot measure this November and thank our emergency services with a yes vote.
911 is the lifeline of Lewis County.
