Letter to the Editor: More on Guns

Posted

Wow. Letter writer Marty Ansley entirely missed the point of my letter. My suggestion of parenting difficulties has to do with the legal ramifications of child punishment, a problem brought about a liberal legal system intent on making certain that children’s mental health is safe from a spanking when needed.

As for my justification of gun ownership, again he missed the point. We have something called the Second Amendment to our Constitution. Liberal media ensures we all know the first part about a well-armed militia.

“It may have been necessary in 18th Century America, but not now.”

Perhaps, but what liberals ignore is the last four words to that Amendment, “shall not be infringed.” In case the left doesn’t have a dictionary, that means it shall not be limited. Limiting the capacity of magazines is infringing on that right, as are most limitations the liberals have managed to sneak into society.

Gun ownership was much more prevalent when I was a kid. And we had prayer in schools, corporal punishment and the Pledge of Allegiance every day in school. And gun violence was far less frequent than it is today. And his personal attack on President Trump is not only snarky and typical of the left, but ignores the incompetence and corruption of the current administration.

Guns are not going away. Just because an extremely liberal country like Australia gave up their weapons doesn’t mean it’s necessary or even going to happen here. America is much more competent and conservative than those countries, and the crime rates in those countries have not declined much, and there’s just as much violent crime there now as before.

But the citizens are no longer able to defend themselves from that violence. As a final word, the CDC keeps records on gun violence, and until recently their website showed statistics for gun shootings in self defense. Those statistics were recently removed after much coercion from gun control advocates. The telling statistic is that between 60,000 and 3.5 million self-defense shootings occur every year in the U.S. The range is wide because many shootings are not reported or poorly reported. This is a statistic we never hear from the media because it doesn’t doesn’t fly in their gun control agenda. Mr. Ansley, you should take your act to Seattle where they love your message.
