Letter to the Editor: More Port of Centralia Reporting Needed

Posted

I read with intent your in-depth reporting on various Lewis County commissioners meetings, quite contentious at times but very informative to the public.

I believe newspapers play an important part of freedom of speech and free press. Unlike a lot of countries stifling the news, we have a tradition of reporting it.

So why is it so difficult for The Chronicle to allow critical comments or letters to the editor, etc., regarding the Centralia port? Lots of questions are being asked for the port and the port repeatedly tells us to file a records request. Maybe The Chronicle could decide to do some reporting on questions put forth. Also, some investigative reporting would be appreciated. Asking for a financial report and the reasoning that went into the executive’s recent large increase in pay.

I’m for making it possible for newspapers to survive and prosper in the digital age. Let the reporters do their jobs. We will all be better informed no matter which side of the story we land on. The readers and subscribers deserve nothing less.
