Letter to the editor: Politicians have never seen a tax they didn’t like

Posted

Surprise, surprise. The county commissioners are raising every tax they can get their hands on.

Of course, they all profess dislike of raising taxes, but “had to” in order to balance the budget. So, they get a 3% increase in taxes from the taxpayers, and we only get to maintain services.

Of course, my retirement income will not increase 3%.

Politicians have never seen a tax they didn’t like. And, as usual, they throw out the “public safety” threat for one of the reasons they “had” to raise taxes.

Another typical politician ploy; that, and “it’s for the children,” two tried and true reasons for raising taxes.

Cutting unnecessary budget expenses never occurs to politicians. They claim the budgets are “cut to the bone” already.

Of course, this is nonsense, and they know it. I spent too many years in government to know that this is one of the biggest lies they tell. And this on top of the new levy for the 911 service.

I wonder what our government is actually doing.

They can’t provide necessary public safety services without special levies and tax increases.

Between the state and the county I’ve just about been taxed out of my home.

I would love a chance to go at the county budget and make some cuts. I think that tying the commissioners’ and executives’ compensation to budget savings might bring some changes to the process.
