Letter to the editor: Pollock has chosen leadership and purpose over popularity

Posted

I have known Lindsey Pollock most of my life.

Though a couple years apart in age, I have known her well as we both attended Boistfort Elementary, W.F. West, Washington State University, the same church youth groups and were in the same 4-H club.

Lindsey has always stood out as a very smart and thoughtful person. We have also both been self-employed, which causes you to think about money and long term planning in a unique way.

Politicians say yes to everyone. Politicians spend or promise money like it can be printed or picked off the tree out back. Politicians twist their words to pander to their buddies or not offend anyone.

By those standards, Lindsey Pollock appears to be a lousy politician, but that is what makes her an outstanding county commissioner.

You don’t have to look far in the news to see school districts, towns and counties that are struggling with finances due to over-promising without proper planning for implementing and paying for it.

It makes politicians popular but ineffective or, worse, detrimental to those they serve.

Lindsey instead has tried to be a good steward of taxpayer dollars and has had to say no to those that always will want more.

She has asked the hard questions. She has focused on projects that will benefit our county in the long term. She has chosen leadership and purpose over popularity.

That’s why I voted for Lindsey and hope others will too.
