Letter to the Editor: Republicans Need to Get More Offensive?

Posted

Despite the hoots and hollers at The State of the Union Address, we are told: “Republicans need to get more offensive.”

Imagine that if you will.

This opinion was delivered by a publicly devout Christian (and a “favorite” caller) on our local radio talk show.

Yes, we should always be wary of any demonstration of weakness, and equip ourselves against it.

For example:

On one of our daily drama broadcasts, one of the co-hosts suffered a temporary lapse of reason and lightly chastised the other about a diatribe against the governor. Happily, this was quickly resolved when his partner rose to the occasion and delivered a welcome retort that was spontaneous, gleeful and candid:

“I like calling people names. It makes me feel good!”

Obviously Republicans “feeling good” about themselves is desperately needed. The cost of preying on the respect and reputation of others is inconsequential, and in the end, proves its worth.

Locally, our reverent patriots are fully engulfed in this mania, and there is no need to worry about a chink in the armor here. Lapses in brain power and in communication skills do not stand in the way. The message is loud and clear and Republican ideals are boosted to the stars.

We claim the American flag as our own; it is a matter of civic pride. And although these emblems of our freedom are so routinely tattered and approaching the state of being unrecognizable, we are unashamed, and rejoice that they are being displayed in all their glory — being draped over a tailgate and bumper and dragging along the ground. A “Let’s Go Brandon!” bumper sticker along with a sculpture of male genitalia hanging from the trailer hitch completes the ensemble. I find this constant call for the public to have sexual relations with the President of the United States as a hopeful sign of change, for it indicates that Republicans are more open minded in some matters, than they would lead you to believe.

Some of our more outstanding citizens dispense with the innuendos completely and have established, with the usual patriotic fanfare, semi-permanent “F–k Biden” monuments displayed all over town and country.

Other efforts to educate the public, and brighten up our streets have been suggested. One particular comment on the aforementioned talk show really offers a simple, hands on solution: We should walk up to the homeless and wave guns around to show them who is boss.

Anyone other than me find it astonishing that we have people here in Lewis County that can outdo Christ in the matter of Christianity? Keep up the good work.
