Letter to the Editor: Student Asks Voters to Approve Levy

Posted

I am a student at Centralia High School, and am asking you to please vote “yes” on the upcoming school levy proposal. Our school doesn’t get enough money for the things that we need — things like CTE classes, extra counselors, music and sports programs, smaller class sizes, and some other things. As a student I have benefitted from many of these things, and was able to attend the state Skills USA program last year to represent our school because of levy money our school has received.

I don’t know much about how school funding works, but I do know that the state doesn’t give our district all the money we need for extra things. And that they put restrictions on the money they do give us, which is why our school district needs to ask our community for extra help.

By voting “yes” on the levy, you are giving students in Centralia many opportunities that we wouldn’t otherwise have. And when we have strong schools in our community, everyone wins. I’m not old enough yet to vote, so I am asking you to stand up for all the students in Centralia and vote yes on the levy.
