I am writing to express my strong support for Commissioner Sean Swope in his continued service to Lewis County.
Over the past years, Swope has demonstrated dedication to prioritizing the needs of our local community, particularly when it comes to public health decisions. A prime example of his commitment is his leadership in ensuring that Lewis County has a health officer who truly understands our local needs.
When Commissioner Swope initiated the termination of Dr. Alan Melnick and Dr. Steven Krager’s contracts, it was not a rash decision but a well-thought-out plan to find a health officer with deep local ties. This was about more than just filling a role — it was about finding someone who would reflect the values and needs of our community.
Commissioner Swope’s support for Dr. Joseph Wiley, a retired pediatrician, and a local candidate, illustrates his focus on bringing in someone who already has the trust and support of our community. Unlike regional health officers who serve multiple counties, Dr. Wiley is someone who lives here, knows the people here and has dedicated much of his career to serving this community.
Swope recognized the importance of having a health officer who would not just bring expertise but also a personal investment in the health and well-being of Lewis County.
Swope’s determination to put Lewis County first in public health matters, even when it means making tough decisions and having difficult conversations, is a testament to his commitment to ensuring we have leadership that truly represents us.
He prioritizes local control, and his focus on building from within should be applauded. Sean Swope continues to make decisions that are in the best interest of our community. I urge voters to support him in the upcoming election and allow him to continue advocating for the health and wellbeing of Lewis County residents.
