Letter to the Editor: System Should Not Go Easy on Onalaska Mail Thief

Posted

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza and his deputies for the arrest of Amber K. Ingram (AKA Amber K. Rushton or Amber K. Blankinship) the mail theft ring leader that was recently discovered from Onalaska.

The hard work and dedication that Sheriff Snaza and his deputies have put into this case so far shows why he was the right choice for voters last November during the election. I'm very pleased to say voters definitely made the right decision to keep him for his third term as Lewis County Sheriff. As far as this case is concerned, I have a lot to say.

Mrs. Ingram and her cronies caused severe trouble, hardship and pain for not just people in our community, but also as far as Seattle and many other small communities in between. These thefts caused people’s health insurance to be canceled, harmed small business owners and withheld medication that people needed, causing them to suffer.

Even a Lewis County sheriff's deputy had a package stolen. Just one business owner that she stole from lost $3,000 in customers checks that were discovered in her possession. Not to mention the startling amounts of stolen credit cards, checks and other valuables recovered during the search of her residence.

I'm all for the criminal justice system showing defendants grace and mercy. I have certainly taken that stance in the past on many, many cases. However, I do not take that stance on this case. The amount of irreversible harm and damage this caused to so many hardworking, good, honest and amazing people in our community and others is beyond reprehensible and disgusting.

I'm hoping that as this case makes its way through the system, prosecutors do their job and actually put her in prison for some years and not give her a slap on the wrist with drug court or probation. If the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office truly cares about victims and the citizens in this community, then Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Jonathan L. Meyer and his staff will ensure that she is held accountable to the fullest extent and spends time in custody with the Washington State Department of Corrections.

I guess only time will tell if the prosecutor's office is after justice for the victims in this case, or for letting people walk our streets after committing heinous acts like this.

I just hope that justice is served in this case because so many deserve it.

Respectfully,

Bo D. Rupert
