Letter to the Editor: The Upcoming Election — Time to Save Our Nation Is at Hand

Posted

In a few short weeks, we will be voting in the first nationwide election since Jan. 6, 2021. For the first time in my life, I fear for the future of the United States of America. I am old enough to have lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, Watergate, the Cold War and our adventures in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. Never before have I felt this sense of approaching doom.

A large number of us, thankfully still a minority, chose to believe in every sort of conspiracy imaginable to avoid coming to grips with actual facts, starting with the fact that their demigod has been blatantly lying from the moment he arrived on the national stage. They have taken the decision to base their party on these lies and attempt to wrap their evil in propaganda, white teeth and Brooks Brothers suits.

They have decided to look back to a time some 200 years ago in our history for their inspiration, a time before slavery was outlawed, when women had no right to vote and white was right in all things. The list of atrocious policies they now champion is too long to delineate here.

Their stance on women's rights alone should be enough to have every last one of them voted out.  Their continuing attacks on the right to vote should disgust every American.

Among the more insidious propaganda of these candidates is the phrase “America First.”  It's designed to make their hateful, racist nature appear patriotic. Consideer the connotations of that phrase from the past, its association with those who supported the Nazis and their use of mass murder.

This election, we must, all of us, understand that what is at stake is more than the candidates for our local offices, rather we hold the entire future of our nation in our hands. The time to save our nation is at hand. The only weapon that we, the people, have is our vote. Do not be swayed by propaganda. An attempted coup is not a tourist visit. The Congress of the United States is not our enemy, and those who want us to forget what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, are not our friends or patriotic Americans.

This election cycle is not about politics as usual. It is a contest for the soul and future of the United States of America.
