Lewis County Coffee Co. honors Christmas coffee cup design contest winner

A new Christmas-themed coffee cup has joined Lewis County Coffee Co. stands.

It was designed by W.F. West High School freshman Harper Grisham.

Lewis County Coffee Co. held a contest for a W.F. West High School graphic design class taught by DeeDe Young. Around 40 students entered the contest.

“Our high school’s commercial arts program equips students with real-world skills that extend far beyond mastering industry-standard software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Through hands-on projects like designing LC Coffee Co.'s annual holiday cup, students develop vital soft skills such as creative problem-solving, collaboration, and meeting client needs,” Young said in an email to The Chronicle.

“Through partnerships like this one, students see their work come to life and connect with their community in meaningful ways,” Young said.

Grisham spent nearly four class periods working on Adobe software to create her coffee cup featuring snow covered trees and a Santa hat on the Lewis County Coffee Co. logo.

Since the release of the new cup design, she’s seen people walking around school and the town holding coffee cups with her design.

“It’s cool to see people walking around with it,” Grisham said.

The experience made Grisham want to continue designing more items, such as clothes.

“We at Lewis County Coffee just want to reiterate the joy we have in working with the students in the (career and technical education) programs at W.F. West and are thrilled with the work Harper did on our first ever in production holiday cup available in 16-ounce at all the locations while supplies last,” co-owner of Lewis County Coffee Samantha Magnuson told The Chronicle in an email.

Students at W.F. West began running the Crimson & Gray Powered by Lewis County Coffee at W.F. West High School, an in-school coffee shop fully run by the school’s business and marketing students last year as part of the Distributive Education Clubs of America program.
