Lewis-Pacific Swiss Society to Host 53rd Annual Oktoberfest at Swiss Hall on Oct. 1

The Lewis-Pacific Swiss Society will celebrate its 53rd annual Oktoberfest at the Swiss Hall in Frances on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Throughout the day, patrons will be able to compete in bowling, horseshoes and pinochle tournaments while they enjoy bratwurst and kielbasa from the grill. Hard cider and craft beer will also be served by the beer garden.

Featured at the event will be an outdoor traditional Swiss style nine-pin bowling tournament. The tournament will start at 10 a.m. with cash prizes and trophies for the top bowlers. The first perfect score of 27 wins $500. Bowling tickets will be discontinued at 6 p.m. and bowling will end at 8.

Signups for the horseshoe and pinochle tournaments will start at 12 p.m. and playing will begin at 1 p.m.. A stein holding competition will be held sometime in the evening.



The evening will include dancing to live polka music by Kapelle Blaser-Faver starting at 6 p.m. Announcements for the winners of the raffle and bowling, horseshoes and pinochle tournaments will be held at 9:30 p.m. following the coronation of the Swiss Miss.

One candidate for the 2022 Oktoberfest Swiss Miss will be Grace Huber. Huber is a senior at Willapa Valley High School and has earned academic honors while playing volleyball, basketball and fastpitch. In addition to her academics, Huber serves as ASB president, FFA secretary and is a member of the Honor Society. Her hobbies include beef farming, horseback riding, hunting and fishing. She plans on pursuing a degree in animal science at Oregon State University. Huber has attended every Schwingfest since she was born. Her great-grandmother Hermina Muller was born in Goldau, Switzerland, and immigrated to the U.S., where she met Joseph Huber, born in Lucerne, Switzerland. Her grandparents are Geri and Adolph Huber and her parents are Steve and Brandi Huber. Huber is proud of her Swiss heritage and is excited to be running for the 2022-2023 Swiss Miss. Supporters can help Huber’s campaign for Swiss Miss by purchasing buttons from her at Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 1, until 4 p.m.
