Cross Country roundup: Local runners race at Steilacoom


Runners from Centralia, W.F. West, Tumwater, Rochester, Tenino and Rainier joined a packed field in Pierce County for the BROOKS Fort Steilacoom Invitational on Saturday.

Tumwater’s Alan Penrose III had the best local time of the event, taking 10th in the boys silver division with a time of 17:12.90. Behind him, teammates Reis Howell (17:16.00) and Jude Furubotten (17:16.50) were 15th and 16th, respectively.

In the boys bronze race, Teninio’s Tristan Von Bargen led the local pack with a time of 18:43.3 to finish 31st. W.F. West’s Ezra Birchard (18:48) was 34th, Tenino’s Carter Mounts (18:49.7) was 35th, and Rochester’s Taydee Evenstar (18:53.6) was 38th. Centralia's Adam Leon led the Tiger boys with atime of 19:51.3.

Tumwater’s Annabelle Clapp had the best local time in the varsity girls races, taking seventh in girls bronze race with a time of 21:48.5. But Rainier junior Madison Ingram, running in a JV race, posted a faster clip at 20:43.5.

Centralia's Elyse O'Dell (25:34.5), Ruth Gonzalez (25:34.9) and Riley Meade (25:39.5) all came in together in the girls bronze race to take 66th, 67th, and 68th, respectively, with Esther Hopkins (26:04.1) just behind them in 73rd and Keira Jones (26:18.8) just behind her in 75th.

W.F. West’s Jane Birchard ran the 5,000-meter course in 26:26.9.

Loggers take second Longview

Onalaska came in second in the final boys team score standings Saturday in Longview at the Jack and Jill Invitational at Lake Sacajawea, despite not putting an individual runner in the top 10.

La Center took the team title with seven of the top 11 finishers. Isaac Fitch led the Loggers with a time of 19:02.10 to finish in second place, and Onalaska filled in high finishers behind him for the team score.

Conner Blair finished 15th at 19:19.10, Cole Russon was 20th at 19:43.00, Riley Carter was 26th at 20:19.60, and Taden Miller rounded out the team score with a time of 20:24.40 for 29th place.

In the girls’ race, Melissa Reiman was fifth overall at 23:00.60 as the only Logger on the course.

Napavine freshman Landon Engelbertson, the only Tiger on the course, was 50th with a time of 22:15.20.
