Log Truck Procession Honors Life of Robert Perkins in Onalaska on Saturday

Posted

A procession of log trucks and crew buses drove through Onalaska on Saturday to honor a local logger who died in a work-related accident in Grand Mound last month.

Robert “Rob” Perkins started his own business, R. Perkins Logging, LLC in Centralia shortly before his death on Feb. 14.

He was 53.

Perkins grew up in Onalaska and graduated from Onalaska High School in 1988, according to his obituary in The Chronicle. He played football at Yakima Community College before returning to Lewis County.

“Rob was known in his adult life in the community for his time spent volunteering in youth sports, his longtime involvement and success in the logging industry and for always being willing to lend a helping hand,” reads his obituary. “He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, riding dirt bikes and coaching or watching his sons play sports.”

Saturday’s procession started at Bodie’s Truck Stop in Onalaska at about 8:30 a.m. and ended at Onalaska High School, where Perkins’ friends and family gathered for Perkins’ memorial at 11 a.m.

“His family wishes to keep Rob’s spirit alive and felt by the community in the way of making a conscious effort to consistently love, care and help all those around them when possible,” reads Perkins’ obituary.
