Loggers Breeze Past Timberwolves For State Bid

Playing perhaps the hardest schedule of any 2B football team this season, Onalaska football put an exclamation point on its league and district schedule, beating Morton-White Pass, 62-0, in the district crossover to move into the state tournament.

“Really impressed with how we played,” Onalaska coach Mazen Saade said.

The game was never in doubt as a running clock was put in place in the first half, and the second half saw eight-minute quarters.

Marshall Haight led a potent rushing attack that churned 383 yards on the ground. Haight racked up 117 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 17 carries, while Gunnar Talley, Juan Ibarra and Kayden Mozingo each added a rushing score.

“Our offense was able to execute and we were pleased with how our offensive line blocked,” Saade said.

Ibarra had a breakout game on both offense and defense, scoring touchdowns on a run, a 19-yard catch from Mozingo and a 35-yard interception. Talley also took a 30-yard INT to the house.

“Ibarra played lights out,” Saade said. “Really impressed with our secondary.”

The Loggers’ defense as a whole tore it up, limiting the Timberwolves to -3 total yards and just one first down, including -6 yards on the ground. The T-Wolves’ only plus yardage came from Bleu Aron’s three passing yards on 5 for 17 passing.

“Our defensive preparation was outstanding,” Saade said. “The whole team played well.”

Onalaska (5-5 overall), the defending 2B state champions, are now one of the final 12 teams left in the state and will await the WIAA’s state playoff seeding set to be announced Sunday.

Morton-White Pass ends its season with a 5-5 overall record.
