BIG TIME: Onalaska Uses Big Second Half to Outdistance Pirates

ONALASKA — Callie Lawrence put up a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Loggers caught fire in the second half to put away visiting Adna in a 57-45 Central 2B League victory on Tuesday.

It was a pivotal league victory for the Loggers against an Adna team that is also vying for one of the top spots in the league.

“It felt really, really nice,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “Adna’s a really good team and it wasn’t a 12-point game until the end. They kept with us all game.”

The Pirates took off with the momentum early before the Loggers reeled off a 9-2 run to start the second quarter, giving them a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way.

The two squads played neck and neck until four minutes to go, when Onalaska built a six-point lead that created some cushion and held on the rest of the way.

Morgan Hamilton finished with 14 points, a team-high eight steals and four rebounds, while Dakota Hamilton added 13 points. Post Alex Cleveland-Barrera came back after being out the past three weeks and added seven points and five rebounds.

“Alex didn’t lead us in any category but she is the heart of the team,” Olson said. “She makes a huge difference. And Callie had a monster game.”

Olson also commended Morgan Hamilton for her defense in guarding Adna point guard Kaylin Todd, holding her to 10 points.

Summer White and Karlee Von Moos also scored 10 points each for the Pirates, while Faith Wellander scored nine and Brooklyn Loose added six.

Adna (7-5, 2-1 C2BL) heads to Rainier on Thursday. Onalaska (8-3, 2-1 C2BL) hosts Toledo on Thursday.
