Loggers Clinch Playoff Berth With Win Over Bulldogs

The good news: Onalaska secured a district playoff berth with a 59-44 home victory over Stevenson in a do-or-die matchup Wednesday.

The bad news: the Loggers get the prize of taking on the Central 2B League’s No. 1 seed Kalama in the opening round of districts on Saturday.

Mason Ulery scored a game-high 27 points in another impressive offensive showing for the senior, while Kole Taylor added 12 points.

“Too bad we don’t have someone to help him,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said of Ulery. “He takes the ball up the court and usually defends the other team’s best player.”

The Loggers raced out to a commanding 32-16 lead at the half before the Bulldogs came roaring back, outscoring Ony 22-13 — behind four Bulldog 3-pointers — in the third quarter to cut the deficit.

But Onalaska recovered and went on a 14-6 run to end the game and preserve the victory.

“I thought our guys played hard,” Nelson said. “Defensively, we played pretty well for most of the night, other than the third quarter.”

Onalaska next hosts Kalama to close out the regular season on Thursday. The Loggers will then head to Kalama to face the Chinooks in the opening round of districts on Saturday.
