Loggers’ Depth, Pirates’ Relays Shine in Onalaska

Adna, Onalaska, Rainier, and Pe Ell joined a group of eight schools in Grit Town Thursday for the final varsity meet of the regular season, and area schools had big days up and down the card.

Onalaska took first in the boys team totals, with Rainier coming in second just two points behind the Loggers, ahead of Adna in third and Pe Ell in fourth. On the girls’ side, Adna finished first, Onalaska was second, Rainier third, and Pe Ell sixth.

The Loggers took the boys’ team title despite only having two individual winners. Isaac Fitch won the 400 meters with a time of 53.74, and Ben Russon was first in the 1,600 in 4:53.74. Behind them, though, the Loggers had 13 boys finish either second or third, earning points in just about every event.

The Mountaineers got their points with wins, including taking first in every single boys field event. Josh Meldrum won the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches, while also winning the 100-meter dash in 11.81. James Meldrum won the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches), Chase McFarland won both the long jump (19 feet, 1.5 inches), Matthew Kenney won the shot put (41 feet, 1.5 inches) and the discus (132 feet, 9 inches), and Zander Peck won the javelin (138 feet). On the track, Zach Hamilton won the 3,200 (11:04.12), while Chris Grey, Josh Meldrum, Jayden Alegarbes, and Kenney won the 4x100 relay (47.42).

Adna got wins on the boys’ side from Jaxon Dunnagan in the 200 (24.75), Cohen Hartley in the 800 (2:14.58), and Hartley, Kolton and Kooper Moon, and Jordan Stout in the 4x400 relay (3:48.27).

On the girls’ side, Adna swept the relays to pace the way to the team win, with Sophie Hagseth, Reagan Naillon, Lydia Tobin, and Megan Price winning both the 4x100 (56.19) and the 4x200 (1:58.33), and Naillon, Price, Karissa Larson, and Sorena Neilson winning the 4x400 (4:46.20). Price also got an individual win in the 200 (29.10) while Tobin won the javelin (87 feet).

Onalaska’s Brooklyn Sandridge had three first-place finishes, winning the 400 (1:06.12), the discus (91 feet), and the long jump (14 feet, 6 inches). Melissa Reiman took first in the 800 (2:45.70) and the 1,600 (6:06.74). Kelsi Haas won the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and the pole vault (9 feet). Halle Henricksen won the shot put (31 feet, 6.5 inches).



Skye Dale was Rainier’s lone girls winner, in the triple jump at 24 feet, 9.5 inches.

Pe Ell swept the hurdles, with Carter Phelps winning the 110-meter race (16.35) and the 300 (42.96) for the boys, and Charlie Carper winning the 100 (18.18) and the 300 (51.62), while also winning the 100-meter dash (13.83).

Paige Hill Wins for Riverhawks at North Beach

The Toledo track and field team took third out of five teams on the girls’ side and fourth out of seven on the boys’ Thursday, at a 1B/2B/1A meet at North Beach.

Paige Hill had the Riverhawks’ lone win, taking first in a two-girl 1,600-meter race with a time of 6:56.84. She was also second in the 800 (3:10.58) and the shot put (26 feet, 5 inches.) Zoey Campbell was second in the discus (56 feet, 1 inch), Naomi Padgett was second in the javelin (74 feet, 2 inches), and Hallie Cournyer was second in the 300-meter hurdles (1:01.25).

Toledo’s best boys result came from Larry Anderson, who was second in the javelin with a toss of 121 feet, 5 inches.
