Loggers Fall to Seagulls in Season Opener

Onalaska held Raymond’s WSU commit Kyra Gardner to 13 points but the Seagulls’ supporting cast was too much to overcome as the Loggers fell 50-34 in a season-opening road loss Tuesday.

“They’re a good team and we knew that going in,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “I was not disappointed with our effort. It was about how I expected the first game to go.”

Gardner played more of a distributing role on the night as Onalaska rotated players on her defensively to hold her in check.

“We know she’s one of the best players in the state so we keyed in on her,” Olson said.

With Gardner dishing out passes, the rest of the Seagulls stepped up, with Kyndal Koski scoring 12 points and Karsyn Freeman adding 11.

The Loggers were led by Morgan Hamilton’s 13 points, while Callie Lawrence had eight and Alex Cleveland-Barrera added five. Ony struggled shooting from the field, going 14 of 60 for 23%.

Point guard Brooklyn Sandridge hauled in a team-high nine boards, while Cierra Russ pulled down seven and Hamilton collected six.

“A lot of fine-tuning but I was happy with the effort and level of intensity,” Olson said.
