Onalaska exploded for 17 hits and the Loggers ended their home game against Toledo early in a 15-5 victory in six innings during the Loggers’ league opener Thursday.

The Loggers bats struck early, with leadoff hitter Hannah James hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. Ony would plate two more runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Riverhawks briefly retook the lead, going up 4-3 in the top of the third before the Loggers scored three more runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Desi Smith finished 5-5 at the plate for the Loggers, while Dylan Zigler (1 for 3) drove in three runs and Jordan Sabin went 3 for 4.

“We started seeing the ball, finally,” Onalaska coach Rich Teitzel said. “It helped that we tightened up defensively. We just played a good, solid game.”

The Loggers committed just one error on the day to Toledo’s three. Zigler pitched all six innings, giving up four hits and four walks while striking out one.

“Dylan pitched a good game hitting her spots,” Teitzel said. “And Callie Lawrence had a good game at shortstop.”

Onalaska (2-2, 1-0 C2BL) is off until a doubleheader at Rainier on April 11. Toledo hosts Morton-White Pass in a doubleheader on April 11.
