The Onalaska softball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday, as the Loggers took down Mossyrock 14-2 in five innings.
The game was moved to Onalaska due to weather conditions, but Mossyrock was the designated home team.
Onalaska took advantage of having the game’s first at-bat, as they plated seven runs in the top of the first.
“We were seeing the ball well and hitting the ball hard,” Onalaska coach Rich Teitzel said. “They’ve shaken off the jitters and looked pretty good.”
They added one in both the second and third, and Mossyrock was able to get on the board with two in the third.
Five more runs across the fourth and fifth were enough to give Onalaska the run-rule win.
Braelyn Babb was firmly in control for most of the afternoon in the circle, as she allowed just four hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out 10.
“She was hitting her marks well,” Teitzel said.
Kate Zandell, Jaelyn Auman, and Rylee Torres each collected three hits, and the trio combined to drive in six runs.
Taylor Schwartz brought home one of Mossyrock’s runs on an RBI triple, and Brooke Schwartz brought her home with an RBI single.
Both teams are back on Monday, when the Vikings (1-1, 0-1 C2BL) will be back on the road to face Toledo, while the Loggers (1-1, 1-1 C2BL) will return home to face Toutle Lake.
“It’s a great bunch of young girls,” Teitzel said. “They’re hungry, so we can’t wait for the weather to change so we can get some more reps in and get into a routine.”
