Loggers Win Shortened Season Opener in Leavenworth

Though it lasted just about a quarter and a half, the Onalaska football team got off and running in its season opener in Leavenworth against Oroville, and never looked back in a 30-0, shortened win Saturday afternoon.

The Loggers (1-0) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, and two more in the second, and after a couple of injuries, a shorthanded Hornets side had seen enough, forfeiting the rest of the contest.

Ony’s Case McGraw led the way on the ground with 140 yards and a touchdown, and Rodrigo Rodriguez added another touchdown with 83 yards, with both earning praise from their coach.

Rylan McGraw also dominated up front on defense, and Kayden Mozingo tossed two touchdown passes, to Cooper Lawrence and Blaze Underhill, to round out the scoring.

Still, with a trip to Napavine next week on the horizon, Saade sees room to grow in the next week.

“It was nice to play, I wish we could’ve played the whole game, but it is what it is,” Ony coach Mazen Saade said. “We have to get a lot better, we have to up the level of play that we play at. We have to become way better blockers and tacklers. We have to do that in a hurry.”

“We have to get a lot better at what we do. We’ll break it down and these guys will learn from it so we can be prepared for next Friday.”
