Loggers wreck Mules on road

The Onalaska girls basketball team didn’t quite get all the scoring it would need Wednesday evening in the first quarter, but the Loggers hit that mark with their first basket off the second, going on to clobber Wahkiakum 51-14 in Cathlamet in a Central 2B League showdown.

“Tonight was a good team win,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “Every player that came off the bench did a great job keeping the intensity level high.”

Freshman Emalie Jacoby scored 12 points, with senior Cierra Berg coming in behind her on eight and eighth grader Sommer Zurinskas adding seven. Nine separate players got onto the scoresheet on the night for the Loggers (3-2, 1-1 C2BL).

“I was proud of how hard we crashed the boards,” Olson said. “We didn't shoot well, but worked hard to get second and third looks at the hoop.”

On the other end of the court, the Onalaska defense gave up seven points in the first quarter, but shut the Mules out for the entire second to go into halftime up 28-7, and held its host to just seven more the rest of the way.

The Loggers will wrap their week up with a Friday home game against Rainier.
