Man Accused of Strangling Victim at Gender Reveal Party Near Doty

A man is facing assault charges for allegedly strangling a woman at a gender reveal party near Doty on Saturday.

The defendant, Gilbert Lane Ruiz, 33, of Arlington, was arrested after witnesses at the party separated him from the victim and held him down while waiting for deputies to arrive.

Ruiz is accused of grabbing the victim by the throat and pushing her backwards, according to court documents.



Responding deputies observed a large bruise on her back and the victim reported injury to her throat. Ruiz was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree assault at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 23 and was found to have seven active warrants for his arrest.

His bail was set at $50,000 during a preliminary appearance hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday. His next scheduled court appearance is an arraignment hearing scheduled for Oct. 28.
