A man suspected of shooting at a Wasco County Sheriff’s deputy and trying to steal a car near Corbett earlier this week was arrested Wednesday in Washington, officials said.

Logan Cantwell, 23, was taken into custody by the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office after a brief standoff, officials said, though they offered no further details on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Cantwell is suspected of shooting at the deputy Saturday several miles north of Antelope, officials said.

On Tuesday, Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies issued a shelter-in-place alert to properties in the eastern end of the county after Cantwell tried to steal a car near Corbett, officials said.

Residents were warned that law enforcement officers were searching for a potentially armed suspect, but the search was called off after deputies determined the suspect had left the area.

Cantwell was taken to the Skamania County Jail on local felony warrants as well as a warrant on the suspected murder attempt in Wasco County.
