At noon on Thursday, the Mariners opened postseason ticket sales to the general public. And the remaining seats that hadn't been taken by season ticket holders or VIPs were gobbled up quickly with all three home games of the American League Division Series selling out in minutes.
The way Seattle has embraced this team is truly incredible," said Mariners senior vice president of sales Frances Traisman. "We have the best fans in baseball, and I can't wait to see how far this team can go with a packed house behind them all postseason.
Because of the high demand for tickets, the purchasing process was somewhat infuriating for fans as they tried to essentially win a lottery, with many taking to social media to share their discontent.
With the Mariners clinching a bye through the wild-card round on Thursday afternoon, it means that their first postseason game will come on Saturday, Oct. 4 in the best-of-five-game series.
The secondary ticket market won't be cheap. A glance at SeatGeek showed that the cheapest ticket for Game 1 is $375. Tickets in the Mariners club level were listed for more than $900 each.
Single-game tickets for the potential American League Championship and World Series games will be released if the Mariners advance in postseason play.
