Lewis County Fire District 6 has a new member in its roster: Ash, a 5-week-old rescue kitten.

A concerned citizen found Ash, who “was close to succumbing to hypothermia,” on Market Street in Chehalis during recent freezing temperatures, according to District 6. An officer with the Chehalis Police Department rescued the kitten, which is now a part-time resident at District 6’s headquarters station on Jackson Highway.

The district expects Ash to be a full-time resident at the station by the beginning of 2024.

“Ash has the distinction of being the district’s first ever station cat and is taking time learning his duties,” District 6 stated in a Facebook post.

In the post, the district thanked the citizen who found Ash, Chehalis Police Officer Dyas, District 6 Chief Paul Patterson, and the District 6 Board of Fire Commissioners.

Lewis County Fire District 6 serves the communities of Adna and rural Chehalis. For more information on the district, visit https://lcfd6.org/.
