Newly-appointed Chehalis City Councilor Michael Bannan was sworn into council position 2 at-large at Monday evening’s city council meeting.

“I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of this office to the best of my abilities,” Bannan repeated as Mayor Dennis Dawes read the oath of office.

Bannan was appointed with a 4-2 vote from the mayor and city councilors after interviews with five possible candidates at a special council meeting on March 1. A position on the seven-member council was left vacant after former mayor pro-tem Chad Taylor resigned after purchasing The Chronicle.

Bannan was assigned to serve on a few committees after being sworn in, including the Centralia-Chehalis Transportation Cooperative, the Lewis County Transportation Strategy Council and the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Planning Organization Board.
