Middle innings push Vikings past Ducks

Down 7-6 after three complete frames, the Mossyrock High School softball team picked up much-needed offense to pull away from Toutle Lake and claim a 10-7 triumph on Thursday night at home.

For the first time this spring, the Vikings (3-7, 1-2 C2BL) earned a league win and snapped a four-game slide in the process. It was far from a masterpiece with nearly more combined errors (13) than hits (17).

An infield error by Toutle Lake pushed across the go-ahead two runs for Mossyrock, then an RBI base hit from Taylor Schwartz in the fifth and another error made it a three-run cushion that wouldn’t be touched.

Mossy tied the game at 3-3 after one and answered the Ducks’ two runs in the third with two of its own. Schwartz went 3-for-4 and Chesney Schultz also notched three hits. Six different players recorded an RBI and Erin Cournyer tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts.

The Vikings continue league play on Saturday against arch rival Morton-White Pass for a high noon first pitch.
