Mineral Man Found Dead After Reported Shooting; Murder Suspect Arrested

A woman was arrested for second-degree murder following the death of a Mineral man Sunday evening, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday afternoon. 

Deputies were dispatched to a report of a shooting at a residential address in the 100 block of Washington Street in Mineral at about 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, they found a 58-year-old man dead. 

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the victim. 

Following “initial investigation and interviews,” detectives arrested Michelle Leanne

Steffens, 52, of Mineral, Monday morning. 



She was booked into the Lewis County Jail for  second-degree murder at 6:55 a.m. on Monday, according to jail records. 

“There is not believed to be any outstanding suspects, or ongoing concern for public safety as a result of this investigation,” stated the sheriff’s office in a news release. 

An autopsy will be scheduled and more information about the victim, including cause and manner of death released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office “when appropriate,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“Due to the nature of the investigation, no further information is being released at this time,” stated the sheriff’s office.
