Minerich’s Hat Trick Helps Beavers Upend Grizzlies in League Opener

Led by freshman Tyler Minerich’s hat trick, the Tenino boys soccer team scored its first victory of the season in dominant fashion, beating Hoquiam in its league opener, 4-0.

Minerich scored in the 20th, 60th, and 62nd minutes to put the Grizzlies away after Paydon Henderson’s goal in the 13th minute.

The Beavers (1-1, 1-0 1A Evergreen) bounced back in a big way after being held off the scoreboard against the Toledo-Winlock United team in their first game, erupting for four goals against the winless Grizzlies with nine shots in each half.

“I thought we did a much better job tonight with our defensive shape and our intensity to win the ball,” Beavers coach Kevin Schultz said. “Zach Byer had a great game in defense and Takari Hickle and Salvador Ontiveros were strong winning balls in the middle of the field.”

Keeper Alex Reichelderfer and the Beaver defense also kept the Grizzlies away from goal, pitching a shutout in the win with just two shots all game. Reichelderfer finished with one save, and David Ruedy came in with a save as well.

Tenino will look to keep it rolling as they take on Centralia Saturday in the Hub City.
