The Mossyrock girls basketball team got its first of what it hopes will be a few titles this season Thursday, beating Willapa Valley 53-35 in Menlo to take the 1B Columbia Valley League Crown.

“I’m very proud of this team and how hard they have worked so far this season,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “Being undefeated in league is not an easy task, and claiming a league title is something to be proud of.”

Mossyrock’s Torrey sisters combined to outscore Valley by themselves, with Payton Torrey dropping 28 and Mckenna Torrey adding 12. Payton also came away with 10 rebounds for the double-double, while Mckenna had seven.

Caelyn Marshall added 10 points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals. Her scoring included a key 3-pointer late in the first that gave the guest Vikings their first lead of the day at 10-8, and they’d never look back.

Mossyrock will get the 1B CVL’s top seed, which earns a bye in the District IV tournament to the semifinals. The Vikings will have to win one of two games at the tournament to punch their ticket to State.
