Bail is set at $10,000 for a Mossyrock man accused of assaulting a woman on Dec. 21.

A deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man, identified as Herman L. Jones, 41, after one of the woman’s relatives reported she believed Jones had assaulted the woman.

Jones is accused of throwing the woman to the ground during an argument, causing her head to hit the ground.

The responding deputy “observed a large lump over (the woman’s) right eye” and reportedly heard the woman complain “of pain along the sides of the ribs,” according to court documents. The deputy reportedly documented the lump on the woman’s head as well as “bruising all over (her) body … primarily her arms and legs.”

The woman was reportedly “not cooperative with the investigation and did not want charges pursued or to go to the hospital,” according to court documents. Her relatives “were reportedly concerned for her safety because (the woman) was displaying signs of having a concussion from the blow.”

Jones was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 11:35 p.m. on Dec. 21, according to jail records. He was charged Dec. 22 in Lewis County Superior Court with one count of second-degree assault, domestic violence.

Despite the woman telling prosecutors, the defense attorney and the judge that she did not want a protection order, the court issued a domestic violence no-contact order on Dec. 22 preventing any contact between Jones and the woman for the duration of the case.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28.
