A 36-year-old man who rode his motorcycle away from pursuing police Friday night then crashed and died has been identified, according to the Thurston County Coroner's Office.
Yelm police attempted to pull over John Robinson of Eatonville about 9 p.m. Friday, the News Tribune reported, citing a Thurston County Sheriff's Office news release.
"The rider 'refused to comply and fled,' reaching speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour," the report reads.
Yelm police, Nisqually tribal police and Thurston County Sheriff's deputies were involved in the pursuit, according to the report.
Robinson continued to flee through the county and on Lacey roads, finally turning west on Mullen Road, which later becomes 37th Avenue and Herman Road in Olympia.
"Deputies were unable to keep pace," according to the release.
Robinson lost control of his motorcycle when he hit a gravel driveway in the area of Herman and Wiggins roads in Olympia, according to the report.
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock said Robinson's medical exam is set for Tuesday.
