Mountaineers Crush Bulldogs on the Road

Bouncing back from a tough loss Friday against Toutle Lake, the Rainier boys basketball team crushed Stevenson, 70-41, Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Mountaineers got out to a bit off a slow start, but thanks to 27 points from Ian Sprouffske and double figure efforts from David Cano (10 points) and Jake Meldrum (20 points), they did enough to pull away on the long trek south.

“After a slow start, we were able to see a couple shots go down late in the first half,” Mountaineers coach Ben Sheaffer said. “That really helped propel us and we continued to keep the pedal to the metal in the second half by creating havoc with our pressure.”

Sheaffer also credited Gavin Owen, Jimmy Meldrum, and Cano for great defensive minutes, allowing Rainier to score in transition on easy baskets.

The Mountaineers take on Winlock next at home on Thursday.
