Mountaineers Cut Down Loggers

Rainier senior Ian Sprouffske dropped a game-high 21 points and the Mountaineers blasted Onalaska on the road for a 65-22 victory on Saturday.

The Mountaineers were in control from start to finish, jumping out to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter and taking a 35-10 advantage at the half. They held the Loggers to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.

“They defended us well,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said. “Most of our shots were not good looks. They beat us in every way possible.”

Ony shot just 15% from the field (7 of 45) and 4 of 21 from long range (19%), as Rainier’s defense put the clamps down.

“My biggest concern is we didn’t compete very well,” Nelson said.

Kole Taylor led the Loggers offensively with 10 points. Rainier freshman Jake Meldrum was the Mountaineers’ second-leading scorer with 12 points.

Onalaska (1-2) travels to Kalama on Thursday. Rainier (2-1) hosts Kalama on Tuesday.
