Mountaineers Undone by High-Powered Ducks

Toutle Lake sophomore Zach Swanson pumped in a game-high 30 points and Rainier was never able to match the Ducks’ firepower in an 83-59 blowout road loss in Toutle on Friday.

It was trouble from the start for the Mountaineers as they fell behind 20-6 in the first quarter and were never able to complete a comeback.

“Credit to Toutle,” Rainier coach Ben Sheaffer said. “They came out with a sense of urgency and we dug ourselves a hole we were never able to dig out of. It felt like everything they threw up was going in.

“We would build a little momentum and then they would come down and make a play to regain control of the game.”

Swanson was 15 of 15 from the line for the Ducks as Toutle took advantage at the charity stripe, finishing 23 of 25.

Rainier was led by David Cano’s team-high 16 points, while Ian Sprouffske added 13 and Jake Meldrum pitched in 12.

Rainier (10-5, 4-4 C2BL) heads to Stevenson for a 2:30 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
