Rainier just keeps on rolling, and after another big win over 1A Eatonville Tuesday, a 58-51 road victory, the Mountaineers picked up their sixth straight win.
The Mountaineers (6-1) fought with the Cruisers all game, but a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter was the ultimate decider in the win. That, and guard Ian Sprouffske’s game-high 25 points.
“That was a quality win against a really good opponent,” Mountaineers coach Ben Sheaffer said. “We didn’t let the physical nature of the game take us out of our offense.”
The Cruisers skilled bigs scored their points, but good ball pressure and sound post defense helped the Mountaineers beat the higher classification squad Tuesday, per Sheaffer. The Mountaineers also made eight threes to the Cruisers three, and made 19 of 25 from the charity stripe.
Rainier will take a short break for the holidays before returning to play against another 1A opponent, Montesano, on Dec. 29.
