The Centralia Downtown Festivals Association is once again hosting guided “Museums, Murals & Moonshine” tours of historic downtown Centralia on Saturday, June 3.
“Join us for a guided walking tour that takes you into Centralia’s wild west history through the story-telling murals painted throughout the town,” the group stated in a Facebook post.
The tour will include stops at murals throughout the downtown area that depict various bootleggers, moonshine makers and taverns that used to call Centralia home.
Tours begin at 10 a.m. and will run every hour until 4 p.m. They start at Central Park, located at 215 N. Tower Ave.
Tickets are $12 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. They can be purchased the day of the event or reserved ahead of time by calling The Shady Lady at 360-736-4333.
Following the guided tour, attendees will receive a day pass allowing them to visit all four museums in downtown Centralia including:
• The King Agricultural Museum located at 213 E. Maple St. This museum features the largest antique tractor collection between Seattle and Portland, according to its website.
• America’s Team Museum located at 622 N. Tower Ave. This museum features historic military displays and vehicles contributed by local veterans.
• The George and Mary Jane Washington Museum located at 214 N. Tower Ave. This museum is centered around Centralia’s own founding father, George Washington, and his wife Mary Jane. Washington, the son of a slave, settled in the area in the 1850s and later established the town of Centerville — eventually changed to Centralia — in 1875.
• The Shady Lady Bordello Museum located at 216 N. Tower Ave. This museum focuses on the history of the brothel that used to exist in Centralia up until the mid-1960s.
