A 44-year-old Napavine man died Tuesday after colliding with the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in Chehalis, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Bert A. Holmes was entering northbound Interstate 5 from Labree Road at about 2 p.m. when the crash occurred. A semi-truck and trailer driven by a 23-year-old San Francisco, California, man pulled over to the shoulder, partially blocking the right lane, according to the state patrol. Holmes’ 2005 Chevrolet Silverado struck the back of the semi-truck.

Holmes died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the state patrol.

It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role, the state patrol said in a press memo.
