RANDLE — The eagerly anticipated showdown between two of the best teams in the SWW 1A League was a great show for the packed crowd at White Pass High School Tuesday.
Napavine and White Pass traded blows, but in the end it was the Tigers coming out of the scrap with a 68-64 win.
"It was tight all the way. At the half, we were down by two," White Pass coach Tom Kelly said. "We made five more field goals than them. We've got to win those games. We've got to try and draw more fouls and cut down on the fouls we're giving."
Katie Carns did some damage on the baseline for the Tigers and led the way with 24 points. Trisha Kaut hurt the Panthers driving to the well as she dumped in 19 points for Napavine.
"Napavine played a great game. It was a great game to watch," Kelly said. "We left Carns alone too much on the baseline. She hit three 3s on us. We need to do a better job of stopping dribble penetration. We'll work on that starting at 3 tomorrow."
White Pass went up 61-59 with 1:30 to play, but turned the ball over twice in a row and Carns hit some free throws.
White Pass was led by Kristen Andrew with 17 points, Breanna Moody 14 points and 11 rebounds and Kendra Redmon 13 points. Panther 5-foot-2 senior Rebecca Collier pulled down nine rebounds.
"In the third quarter, I thought we had them. But give Napavine credit, they responded and played well," Kelly said.
Napavine (7-0 in league) hosts Onalaska and White Pass (6-1) plays at 5:45 Saturday at Mossyrock.
Toledo 74, Onalaska 53
ONALASKA — Rachel Wallace dominated the court, the boards and Onalaska as she led Toledo to a 74-53 crushing over the Loggers in SWW 1A League girls basketball here Tuesday.
"Wallace just absolutely owned us all night. We didn't match their aggressiveness," Ony coach Bob Dow said.
Wallace led all scorers with 33 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Wallace made four 3-pointers.
"We absolutely had no answer for her," Dow said.
The Indians shot a hot 49 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Loggers 38-27.
Alicia Growden chipped in nine points and seven rebounds for Toledo while Katie Boone scored 11.
Sarah Petrino led Ony with 18 points and Kaylie Stanley had 12. Both Stanley and Petrino had five boards each.
"Toledo owned us all night," Dow said.
On Friday, Toledo hosts Ocosta and Toledo (1-5 in league and 1-9 overall) plays at Napavine.
Winlock 55, Kalama 35
WINLOCK — It's not to often that a basketball team returns from the holidays playing consistent ball, but Winlock did just that in a 55-35 romp over Kalama here Tuesday.
The Cardinals scored 13 points in three of the four quarters with the second being the odd quarter with 16.
"Lucky number 13," said Winlock coach Jim Swan. "We were real consistent offensively tonight."
And defensively as well, holding the Chinooks to just 18 points through the first three quarters. Kalama shot just 29 percent from the field (17-of-59).
"We did a nice job defensively," Swan said.
Whitney Bryant led the way for Winlock with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Breanne Crawford scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half while Hailey Bryant added 10 points and seven boards.
The Cardinals improve to 4-2 in league and 8-2 overall. They are at Rainier Friday.
