Powered by 14 hits and three of them by No. 9 hitter Bella Lawton, the Riverhawks were able to salvage a split in a weekend tournament at Eisenhower High School with a 10-4 win over the host Cadets on Saturday.
Lawton finished 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and created a dynamic turn of the lineup with Zaya Norberg also driving in three runs on two hits. Toledo (5-2-2) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run bottom of the second and it tallied three more in the third.
Eisenhower got half of those runs back, but Peyton Holter shut down its offense over the last three frames. The right-hander struck out six in a complete game win in the circle. Ellie Seely and Xtyn Norberg notched two hits for the Riverhawks.
In a 10-5 loss to Kittitas in the first game, Toledo finished with more hits (11-10) but had five errors and six of the 10 runs allowed were unearned.
Still, the Riverhawks led 4-1 after a Taysia Miller two-run double in the top of the third and RBI doubles by X. Norberg and Brenna Carver in the fourth. The Coyotes unleashed seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.
Miller, Lawton and Camryn Hurley all recorded multiple hits for Toledo. It will return to the diamond on April 14 against Rainier to kickoff C2BL action.
